Chess for Cure is a nonprofit initiative that promotes awareness and raises funds for gynecologic oncology research while also empowering female chess players. To expand the initiative beyond its origins in Ohio, United States, the inaugural Chess for Cure SoCal Tournament is taking place on September 20-21, 2025 in Southern California with 100+ chess players. A portion of the tournament proceeds will support City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center’s gynecologic oncology research and U.S. Women in Chess programs. Along with the tournament, there is a fundraiser to directly benefit City of Hope’s gynecologic oncology research.

Organization

Chess for Cure is a program started by Discovery Chess Learning Academy, a nonprofit based in Ohio that is committed to advancing chess education, nurturing talent, and fostering community engagement through the game of chess.
