Loto is a non-profit association based on the work of volunteers which is fighting against ovarian cancer. One of Loto Onlus’s goals is to disseminate information, making women aware of diseases like ovarian cancer, a female cancer with one of the worst prognoses affecting more than 5,000 women in Italy and 250,000 women worldwide every year.

It was created in 2013 by a group of patients and friends who wanted to initiate motion a “pioneering” pathway to deal with a disease whose causes are unknown and for which effective measures for early diagnosis are not yet available. The association is made up of a Governing Council (President Dr Sandra Balboni) and a Technical- Scientific Committee (Director Dr Claudio Zamagni – Head of the Addarii Medical Oncology SSD [department], Sant’Orsola General Hospital in Bologna), who help by contributing, each in their own area of expertise, in the dissemination of information, in supporting women affected by ovarian cancer and in supporting scientific research. Dedicated events, workshops and conferences, the website and the newsletters are the main tools through which the information, support and awareness-raising activities are carried out. In addition to organising scientific and information meetings, the Technical-Scientific Committee suggests and selects which research projects to support. Actually, we sustain 3 annual grants for young researchers.
